Dr Patrick Caldwell
Registered Specialist Endodontist
Dr Patrick Caldwell is a registered specialist in Endodontics. He graduated in Dentistry with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1998 and went on to work for the Royal Australian Navy, both ashore and at sea. During this time, he undertook advanced training in restorative dentistry and in 2002 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
In 2003 Patrick began a three-year, full-time training program in endodontic therapy and microsurgery, graduating with a Masters of Dental Science in Endodontics. He has since gone on to complete additional advanced training, graduating with a Masters of Clinical Dentistry in Implant Dentistry.
In 2006, he returned to work with the Royal Australian Navy and was also engaged as a Visiting Specialist at the Sydney Dental Hospital. In 2009 Patrick moved to Shanghai, China where he was the only Endodontist in a city of 21 million people.
Now Dr Caldwell practices in Birtinya in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland. His small, friendly team are dedicated to resolving a wide range of complex dental cases with attentive, specialist care tailored to each individual patient.
Dr Andy Tsai
Registered Specialist Endodontist
Dr Andy Tsai is a Queensland trained specialist endodontist. Andy graduated with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland and practised as a general dentist in both metropolitan and regional Queensland for close to 10 years.
With a strong interest in Endodontics, Andy returned to the University of Queensland to complete his specialist training and graduated with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in 2021. During his training, Andy authored and published two peer-reviewed journal articles on the use of laser fluorescence technology in Endodontics.
Andy is an active member of the Australian Dental Association, the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists and a committee member of the Australian Society of Endodontology. He is committed to staying up to date with the latest advancements in Endodontics and ensuring that his patients receive the very best result.
Areas of Expertise
Complex Endodontic Therapy
Also known as Root Canal therapy. A positive outcome for a tooth significantly damaged by disease, trauma or decay can be achieved with this therapy.
Endodontic Retreatment
If pain or infection occurs months or years following a root canal, retreatment can alleviate the discomfort by removing bacteria which may have re-entered the root canals of the tooth.
Endodontic Microsurgery
Significant infections of the root canal may require surgical treatment to properly resolve the long withstanding inflammation.
